|
We know it's a daunting task to collect tax document during tax time or even year round if you own a business or rental house. Our advice to you is basically bring anything that remotely looks like tax documentation from any financial institution with you on you tax preparation day. The truth is if you received any tax documentations from bank, mortgage or stock brokers etc, those information has already been reported to IRS. In your return, we need to match what have been reported to IRS. |

Another truth is you suppose to have receipts or documents to support anything you report on your tax return. If for any reason, god forbids, IRS audit your return, they will ask taxpayer to supply those support documentation. Unfortunately this task has to fall on individual taxpayer to collect and provide those records. It is not your tax preparer's responsibility to provide documentations. Most of times we will just take your words. But we can help you identify which is a tax document and what need to keep and for how long. Here is some guideline on some general tax documentations. Bring this form and a copy of your settlement papers for the new house, including Form HUD-1, to your tax interview, so that your tax preparer can calculate your savings.
